A Shelter Full of Hope and Promise

WAG introduces new Drop-In Volunteer Program

We would just like to take a moment to spread the word about our new daily Drop-In Volunteer Program. Up until recently, it has been primarily focused on dog walking. Though this can be a great help to some dogs, the shelter has many animals undergoing rehabilitation that may not be suitable for interactions with the public. In an effort to help communicate the variety of needs of our animals, we have changed the dog-walking program to:

Drop-In Volunteering:

Available daily from 1pm to 4pm (except statutory holidays) This will include a variety of potential ways that someone can help out the animals of WAG, without having to make a long term commitment:

Dog enrichment:

-Yard socialization and play

-Grooming

-Dog walking

-Puppy socialization (please note: if puppies are sleeping, they will not be available for socialization.)

Cat enrichment:

-Socialization and play

-Grooming

PLEASE REMEMBER: This is an Animal Rehabilitation Centre; many of our animals have special needs and we cannot guarantee there will always be animals available for drop-in volunteers.

With these changes, also come some updated rules and guidelines:

-Volunteer groups must be limited to a maximum of 3 people.

-Children under 19 must be accompanied by an adult and may have limited volunteer opportunities.

-Anyone taking a dog for a walk must be at least 19 years of age, bring photo ID, and sign a waiver of liability.

-Any dog going for a walk is required to wear a safety collar, harness, and two leashes and volunteers are required to securely attach both leashes to their person to ensure safety at all times.

Thank you for helping us spread the word!
