During this time of physical isolation, we would like to invite you to enter our Paint Your Pet contest for WAG by painting or drawing a portrait of your pet! This event requires no previous artistic skill or experience! You will be judged on your CREATIVITY, ORIGINALITY, and CAPTURING YOUR PET’S “ESSENCE” (whatever that may look like 🙂 )
You can use ANY medium you want!
If you do not have a pet but still want to participate, pick your favorite WAG animal and get creating!
For a minimum donation of $20 per entry, you will submit a digital photo of your artwork next to the pet model – please include yourself too, the artist (if you wish!)
Feel free to post your progress on social media too… Tag @whistlerwag and use #paintyourpetforwag and we will share it!All entries will be judged by professional artist and Special Guest Judge, Sherry Violette Klassen! RULES: 1) 1 entry fee = 1 piece of submitted art. 2) No previous experience or skill required! 3) Use any medium you want – artist’s choice. 4) Artwork must be completed in your home or the home of the pet. 5) Artwork must not negatively affect others or the pet! (Like don’t paint your actual pet or family members or spill paint all over the neighbor’s porch…you know what we mean!) 6) Entries must be paid for BEFORE you submit the artwork 7) Artwork submission deadline: April 30th at 9pm.

Sherry Violette Klassen – Painter
Sherry Klassen is an emerging artist who paints primarily in acrylic. She is inspired by all things west coast in particular birds and animals. She chooses to paint images that bring a bit of happiness or humour to add a little joy to the world.
She has had several pieces that have exhibited and sold at different events and galleries over the past few years including; The Seymour Art Gallery – Art Party, MAB Art Studio, Art World Expo – Vancouver, The Anonymous Art Show – City Gallery North Vancouver, Pancakes and Booze Art Show Vancouver, Roam Gallery, Arts Whistler – Art Scene Uncovered and The Anonymous Art Show.

Zazie Todd, Ph.D., has a Ph.D. in Psychology (University of Nottingham) and an MFA Creative Writing (UBC). Her book Wag: The Science of Making Your Dog Happy will be published in March 2020 by Greystone Books. She is the creator of Companion Animal Psychology, a blog about how to have happy cats and dogs, according to science. Todd won the 2017 Captain Haggerty Award from the Dog Writer’s Association of America for her article, The Ultimate Dog Training Tip. Todd graduated with honours from Jean Donaldson’s Academy for Dog Trainers (“the Harvard of dog training”), and has a Certificate of Feline Behaviour with Distinction from International Cat Care. She is a shelter affiliate member of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants, a mutli-species professional member of the Pet Professional Guild, and a volunteer at the BC SPCA. As well, she is an affiliate member of the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior. Todd grew up in Leeds, in the north of England, and now lives in Maple Ridge, BC, Canada, with her husband, one dog, and two cats.
