In Remembrance

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of a dear friend and WAG supporter, and pillar in both the Whistler and environmental communities, Tobias Douglas.
Co-founder of one of our favorite companies, Hollow Tree, Tobias was active in the shelter community and passionate about all animal welfare and environmental issues. She and her husband, Grant, generously donated three, custom-made, cedar-shingled dog houses to WAG and they are still standing and well-loved today.
Her support for WAG continued with the creation of a custom candle label from her Hollow Tree candle company, designed just for WAG. With specially ordered red foil and a theme of "Love", it was the perfect tribute to her vision and her love of shelter animals. She generously donated these incredible candles to WAG to help us raise funds for our animals.
Her loss is shocking and devastating to the WAG team and is deeply felt by all of us.
Stay tuned for a tribute from WAG to this incredible woman.
Here is the official announcement from her company:
"Hollow Tree Co-founder Tobias Douglas was born December 19, 1972. At the age of 19 she began tree planting in the forests of British Columbia. Years later she led an accomplished career writing environmental policy to protect the forests she loved. A longing for her days in the forest led her to create Hollow Tree. At a time when she could not find a rich scent that encapsulated her experience in the trees, she created her own. This began a chapter, a community, a brand that stands for everything that was uniquely Tobias. Deep care, quality, timelessness and artistry.
Tobias led a private and deeply compassionate life. That was seen in her love for her husband and Co-Founder Grant, and her connection and commitment to protecting the environment and the animals that habitat within it.
It has taken us a moment to express this. The sudden and unexpected end of a life, of a brave and untamed heart. With great sadness, we share the passing of our beloved Co-Founder, Tobias Douglas.
While her legacy lives on in the Hollow Tree brand, led by the team she built with her husband and Co-founder Grant. Hollow Tree will continue to stand for everything that was uniquely Tobias.
To quote our beloved Co-founder and her description of the Fireweed scent, a tiny, fragile, pink floret, that is the first plant to grow after a forest fire. “BC forests breath a melody of poetry - through such devastation comes such intrinsic beauty”.
In lieu of gifts or flowers it would mean most to carry on supporting the cause dearest to Tobias’ heart. We have included a link in the profile to donate to Save BC Wolves.
With love and forested thanks,
Friends of Tobias and Hollow Tree"
