My story:

Hi, I'm Rae Rae!

I arrived at WAG a few days before Christmas with my litter of 7 puppies. I am a good mom but I am young myself and still learning all about the world around me. I am super sweet and cuddly, I love getting belly rubs from the staff and seem to be settling in well to the shelter so far. My puppies have nearly all found homes of their own now. I hope I won't be forgotten and left till last, I'm a special girl and can't wait to start my next adventure! I'm around 1-2 years old and currently weigh 27kg, I will fill out abit as I am no longer feeding the puppies and am getting consistent healthy nutrition at the shelter. I am new to walking on a harness and leash but I am keen to learn and explore a little more of the world outside the shelter, at my own pace. I am really nervous around cars and busses but I do well in the woods nearby when I can relax a bit more and do lots of sniffing. I am terrified of cars, this can result in some fear based behaviours like lunging and barking at them, a training plan is in place to help me get used to them and learn that they are safe but it is early days.  I have been starting to show my playful side and chase toys, but cuddles and treats are my favourite way to unwind so far. I am currently in isolation but hope to make some new friends soon once I am vaccinated and feeling less anxious about all this change. I have made friends with Taylor at WAG and have had dog friends in the past, but may be a little selective about who I spend my time with. Planned introductions with parallel walks are best right now, I do find seeing other dogs quite overwhelming and have a loud bark to let them know I need more space. With this in mind I would love to find patient understanding humans who will let me take things slowly and will be keen to work with a WAG approved positive reinforcement trainer to help me feel safe and learn the new skills that will get me to gain confidence and live in a home. I am so sweet and loving, I just need someone to take me home and show me the world is a safe place and I will start to show my loving sweet self. I do find car rides tricky too, and busy areas at not my best environment at this time so a unicorn home with some space for me to run around in a less urban environment would do me well. The shelter environment can be very stressful for some animals, I seem to be one of them but WAG hopes to find a foster home soon where I can decompress and start to feel better whilst I wait for my forever home to find me and give me a chance.

Keep an eye on my profile for updates as the staff continue to get to know me better, but if you are interested in adopting me then go ahead and fill out an application to adopt today....

My perfect home:

  • A family with patience who love sweet cuddly young dogs who need some extra support, able to provide me with a safe space.

  • Is ready for the 10+ year commitment.

  • Understanding that I have had HUGE changes in my life recently. I am new to living indoors, wearing a harness/ leash, going in cars and more! I will need you to give me the time I need to settle in and relax after my adoption, whilst you help me gain confidence. I have recently been a mom to a litter of 7 puppies, which is a big task!

  • Will understand canine body language (or is willing to learn) and will listen to my communication when I am unsure of new things, and go at my own pace as I settle into my new surroundings.

  • Be proactive with my training, using a local WAG approved trainer that will help me learn transition and give me the best set up for success.

  • Having a safe & secured yard would be a bonus for ball play sessions! If not, being okay with using a long line to allow plenty of freedom but keep me safe as I settle in.

  • Will take me for regular vet checkups and be proactive with my health.

  • I need a home that is committed to me and ready to give me a life with love and kindness for the rest of my years.
