MEEW MEEW

Breed: Domestic Shorthair
Gender: Female
Age: 2 years
Size: Small

Energy Level: Low as I am not feeling my best
Litter trained? Yes
Kids? Possibly, as long as it's a quiet home
Cats? Possibly, with proper supervision, socialization and separation!
Dogs? Unknown
Medical Needs: recovery from current dermatology issues that may be ongoing, and general yearly checkups, currently on specialist vet food

About Me:

Hi, I'm Meew Meew!

I have been in the care of WAG for a couple of weeks, after joining the Critical Care program. I'm a sweet young kitty that the staff and volunteers are still getting to know. I have been having issues with a skin condition for some time, and recently took a turn for the worse. The staff at Coast Mountain Vet have been looking after me and have just carried out a biopsy to find out what it is that is bothering me and most importantly - how we can fix it! I am currently hanging out at the shelter wearing a fabulous but functional onesie (which makes me look super adorable), and being treated with some meds. My favourite thing is to climb into the humans laps and have a long snuggle, I must say I have won them all over instantly. I make it hard for them to leave my side.

I am looking for a quiet, calm home to help me recover and give me the best chance at healing and being the happy healthy cat I once was. I have previously lived with other animals, but for the moment we are not sure if it is the best idea whilst I am unwell.

UPDATE: 08/05/22

"WAG was able to continue with her veterinary team Coast Mountain Veterinary Services after a biopsy, we have a diagnosis! Meew has a very rare condition called Feline Idiopathic Ulcerative Dermatosis, this answer is just step one to get Meew healthy again, its a long road to recovery but we are always optimistic. Despite the pain she must be feeling, Meew is the most loving kitty, she's very affectionate and would love a shoulder to perch on. "

My Purrrfect Match

  • Will be ready to commit to me long term and not give up on me
  • Will keep my health in mind and take me into the vet for regular checkups, its possible that I may need specialist food too
  • Will give me time to adjust to my new surroundings
  • Will provide lots of enrichment, scratching towers, toys, catio etc.
  • Will set me up for success if I am expected to move into a home with other animals or children (TBC)
  • Will keep me safe and happy, and loved forever

I am little but I am BRAVE and I am definitely a fighter! Thank you to all of our wonderful supporters and Critical Care Fund donors. Without you it would not be possible to take on cases like these and give these animals a second chance.

Please keen an eye on my profile for further updates!

My Story:

I was with my previous home since I was born, they loved me very much and made me a member of their family. However, due to my declining health they were no longer able to provide me the care they knew I needed.

If you cannot adopt at this time, please consider donating to Meew Meew's care as part of WAG's Critical Care Program.

CHAI

Breed: Domestic Shorthair
Gender: Female
Age: approx. 4 months old
Size: small, but growing fast

Energy Level: Kitten Energy! Lots of play with lots of naps
Litter trained? Yes!
Kids? I am weary of new people at first, so proper supervision, socialization and separation!
Cats? Yes, with proper supervision, socialization and separation!
Dogs? Yes, with proper supervision, socialization and separation!
Medical Needs: Completing this round of core vaccinations, then continuing with yearly appointments

About Me:

Hi, I'm Chai!

I have been in WAG’s care for several weeks now waiting for my forever home. I hope it won't be much longer. When I first arrived in the shelter I was very shy and scared, but now I am a loving and lively girl. I like visits from friends new and old, as long as you don't come on too strong. I like pets but am rarely still for long - I do love to explore the cattery and show off my climbing skills. I may hide at first, but I am very interested in everything that is going on around me in the shelter and am a big fan of feeding time.

I can be gentle, but sometimes I'm a little cheeky and like to be a little rough. This is usually during play is most likely cause I’ve never played with humans before coming here. I will need time, patience and kindness while I learn that being rough during play is not okay.

The love, warmth, food, water, and cozy beds they have given me make me feel happy and I am becoming so brave.  There’s been a lot of changes in my life recently and I would very much like to be adopted by people who understand that time and patience, combined with love and respect is very important for me.

My Purrrfect Match

  • will be ready for a 15+ year commitment!
  • have lots of patience while I learn to feel comfortable with my new family.
  • someone who understands that I might not want to cuddle or be touched all the time.
  • will provide lots of enrichment, scratching towers, toys, catio etc.
  • will keep my health in mind and take me into the vet for yearly checkups.
  • understand that I am still developing and my personality may change over time!
  • will keep me safe and happy, forever.

My Story:

I came into WAG with Masala and Earl, we were housed in a hoarding situation from a nearby town. Thankfully we found a temporary home at WAG where we are all learning to enjoy human company and gain confidence in our new surroundings.

If you cannot adopt at this time, please consider making a donation to WAG. Our care will be extended and it takes lots of resources and time to help under socialized animals become confident.

Masala

MASALA

Breed: Domestic Shorthair
Gender: Female
Age: Approx. 7 months old
Size: Small

Energy Level: Medium, may change as I become more confident
Litter trained? Yes
Kids? Unknown, but would prefer a calm home with family members that can respect my space and read my body language
Cats? Possibly, with proper supervision, socialization and separation!
Dogs? Possibly, with proper supervision, socialization and separation!
Medical Needs: Continuing with yearly vet care

About Me:

Hi, I'm Masala!

I have been in WAG’s care for several weeks now, and am enjoying visits from the staff and my regular volunteer friends. I am coming out of my shell and feeling a lot more comfortable in my new surroundings. I really hope that my forever home finds me soon!

I am shy and am much slower to initiate cuddles or play than my room mate Chai. I am quite independent and happy to observe my environment from my favorite high spots and window perches. Once I'm your friend I'll happily sit in your lap, but I need a family that will be okay with me hiding when company comes over. I might even hiss or spat if I feel like my space isn't being respected.

The love, warmth, food, water, and cozy beds they have given me make me feel happy and I am becoming much braver. There’s been a lot of changes in my life recently and I would very much like to be adopted by people who understand that time and patience, combined with love and respect is very important for me.

EARL

Breed: Domestic Long hair
Gender: Male
Age: Approx. 1.5 years old
Size: Medium

Energy Level: Medium, could change as he becomes more confident
Litter trained? yes
Kids? Unknown, looking for a calm, quiet home that will be able to read his body language
Cats? Unknown
Dogs? Unknown
Medical Needs: Continuing with yearly veterinary care

About Me:

Hi, I'm Earl.

I have been in WAG’s care for a little while now, but am enjoying being in my foster home with one of my favourite volunteers. I take a while to warm up, and may never be a lap cat or a cat that loves visitors. I need a family that will be okay with that and not mind me needing my own space when company comes over. I might even hiss or spat if I feel like my space isn't being respected.

There’s been a lot of changes in my life recently and I would very much like to be adopted by people who understand that time and patience, combined with love and respect is very important for me.

Some recent updates from my foster family as they have gotten to know me better:

  • He has come a long way, now really likes to be pet and even brushed, on the tummy too. He could hear us in the other room and started to meow for company. He’s funny because he’ll leave the bedroom and lie in the hallway when he’s finished with us.
  • You can see how relaxed he is in our home now, but don’t let that fool you.  He purrs a lot, loves to be patted and scratched under the chin, but he’s still unsure if you move too fast and doesn’t like to be approached too much from the front (like a lot of cats).
  • We think he would prefer a home on the quiet side.
  • He loves to play with string! (and chew it)
  • He has a really big bushy tail and wonderfully long whiskers! See photos below....

My Story:

I came into WAG with Chai and Masala, we were housed in a hoarding situation from a nearby town. Thankfully we found a temporary home at WAG, and am now in a patient foster home where I am loving the human company whilst recovering from my recent neuter surgery.

Stryker

July6th1

STRYKER

Breed: Tabby
Gender: Male, neutered
Age: Around 4 years old
Size: Medium

Energy Level: Low (currently in recovery)
Litter trained? Yes
Kids? Older, looking for a calm household
Cats? Possibly, if calm
Dogs? Possibly, if calm
Medical Needs: Monitoring for reoccurrence in the future, vet checkups, specialist urinary cat food

About Me:

Hi, I'm Stryker!

I have been in the care of WAG as part of their critical care program for a couple of months now, but I have not received a single application! I was rushed for emergency care due to a urinary blockage which led me to become very unwell very quickly. After lots of tests, love and three nights in overnight care, I was stable enough for my catheter to be removed and for me to pee on my own! Everyone at the vet and the clinic was delighted, and I was able to be moved into a wonderful quiet foster home where I can relax and recuperate.

Stryker will need his forever home to be calm and low stress. They will need to keep a close eye on him and his health in the future, as cats with blockage issues are more prone to reoccurrences. He will also need to be on a special diet ongoing to assist with his urinary health which will be a cost to consider.

Stryker's foster home gave us this little update!

"His little personality is starting to show… The first week or so he barely wanted pets and now he comes to us for attention & is even starting to curl up on our laps or snuggle under a blanket here & there. He loves birdwatching, his appetite has definitely increased and he just seems to be getting stronger and happier as he settles in with us. Oh, and he’s very curious about the dog who comes to visit and they smell each-other through the screen window. "

Stryker's foster mom helped him write his bio:

"If I could have an award for anything, it would be 'World's Cuddliest Cat'. My favourite place to be is sitting on a lap and getting head strokes. You can expect lots of head butts and nudges, as well as extremely loud purring. I love sleeping in a bed (and preferably on your chest) at bedtime. I spend lots of my day sleeping on the bed and love to find spots to cozy up in. I love when my humans create little forts for me to snuggle up in (preferably on your lap with a blanket over me). My active times are late afternoon and evening; I love to have my humans play with me but I can also entertain myself with toys.
I am a social eater and drinker and often need encouragement. I feel most comfortable eating when I have you standing close by. I love to drink directly from the tap and will ask you to turn it on for me! I will need to be monitored (and sometimes encouraged) to make sure I am using my litter box regularly.
I get along with ALL humans. I am super friendly and head butt newcomers immediately. I am extremely gentle and would never deliberately scratch or bite, even if you rub my belly. I have not tried living with other animals, but I get startled easily and it's important to keep my stress levels low. I would prefer a quiet household with more humans than pets. I love company and am looking for a family that spends a decent amount of time at home.
I would rather not be picked up straight away. It takes time and lots of chin scratches for me to build that trust. You'll know when I want to be picked up when I start becoming vocal with you (my meows are the cutest)."

My Purrrfect Match

  • Will be ready for a long term commitment
  • Will keep a close eye on my toilet habits
  • Will keep my health in mind and take me into the vet for regular checkups and be able to pay for my special diet
  • Will give me time to adjust to my new surroundings
  • Will set me up for success if I am expected to move into a home with new animals or young kids
  • Will keep me safe and happy, forever.

My Story:

My family loved me very much but were unable to afford my costly emergency care.

They knew that WAG would give me the best chance at getting the help I needed when I was extremely unwell.

If you can't adopt me, please consider donating to my costly care!

JOJO

Breed: Domestic Shorthair
Gender: Male
Age: 14 years
Size: Large and in charge

Energy Level: Low
Litter trained? Yes, but when I am stressed or sick, I have accidents
Kids? Yes, as long as it's a quiet home
Cats? No thanks
Dogs? No thanks
Medical Needs: Diabetic senior needs. Jojo's family will ideally be very comfortable with administrating insulin and diabetic needs.

About Me:

Hi, I'm Jojo! I am a senior with a lot of love to give who has been here way too long.

I'm a sweet older fella that the staff and volunteers adore spending time with! I will come to you for cuddles, will drool as I enjoy being brushed but I also just enjoy human company in general as I go about my day. I love to chill in sunspots and on window sills, and keep an eye on the goings on of the shelter from my VIP room by reception. I love to have a good supervised roam up front at night when the staff are working on the computers and the others residents have gone to bed. Sometimes I like to wear my harness and leash and go on safe adventures further afield. However, I must be monitored to make sure I don't find any crumbs or treats left behind by the other animals!

The reason for this, is because I am diabetic. My diagnosis was a little over a year ago and I am still finding my groove with my insulin and routine. This involves me being fed 2 X a day at the same time as my insulin and having my blood glucose levels being taken a couple of times a week. I am sooo relaxed with having my blood taken, my injections done and going to the vet. However my crate is not my happy place I will admit.   I am also on a vet specific food (wet and dry) which helps control my levels further.

Ideally, my new owners will be confident and comfortable helping me with daily insulin injections and all the other care that I require. Though there is no cure for feline diabetes, the prognosis for a good quality of life is good with adequate management at home, best achieved through a combination of insulin and dietary therapy. Day to day when I don't have to go to the scary vet, I rotate between some great beds and sun spots. I love getting chin scratches and butt rubs when I have visitors. I gladly enjoy the company and would love someone who is a bit of a homebody.

My Story:

I was with my previous home since I was a year old, they loved me and made me a member of their family. However, due to my health they were no longer able to provide me the care they knew I needed.

While I was sad to be brought into WAG, I know that they'll find me a great forever family, I just hope I don't have to wait too long.

If you cannot adopt at this time, please consider donating to Jojo's care.
