A Shelter Full of Hope and Promise

WAG Staff

Adoption Fees March 15th – 31st 2024

WAG currently has a full house and a waitlist for incoming animals hoping to join us soon. For the first time we have decided to offer 50% off our standard adoption fees for a limited period to increase our animals chances of finding forever homes while also easing the financial burden on potential adopters. We recognize that times are tough and we encourage our adopters to put these funds towards other essentials - such as puppy training and pet insurance. Please note: WAG’s adoption process remains unchanged, including a commitment and preparedness for the long-term responsibilities and costs associated with pet guardianship.
Here at WAG we love our community and appreciate all of the support that comes our way. Whether via donations, volunteering, fostering, driving, fundraisers and more. Right now however, our greatest need is for adopters! If you're ready to expand your family, please consider adopting from WAG and supporting the shelter.
This trial will run until March 31st 2024.

Breed: Lab Mix
Gender: Male
Age: 12 years old
Size: Large

Energy Level: I'm 12 years old and am a serious power napper and leisure stroller
House trained?
Yes!
Kids?
Most likely, preferably older kids/ teens
Cats?
Unknown
Dogs?
I've been keeping to myself while I heal up but used to live with some other dogs outside. I would need to be introduced properly and given time to adjust via proper separation and supervision.
Medical Needs:
I will need to have regular check-ups until I'm fully recovered and some further tests are pending. After that I should have routine vet visits to make sure I'm aging with grace!

About Me:

Meet Jimmy!

New Critical Care animal Jimmy arrived at WAG on Valentine’s Day after being injured by a bull and in need of life saving surgery at Coast Mountain Vets. He came from a very loving home whose primary concern was ensuring the best care for him. They surrendered him into our care as they were worried that the environment he was living in was no longer safe for him in his senior years, even post recovery. They wanted him to have the safety of living indoors and having access to routine veterinary care. He is currently recovering from surgery at WAG and will be receiving regular check-ins with the team at Coast Mountain Vets. He is already making positive progress and winning over the hearts of the WAG Staff.

The surgery Jimmy required was to treat a large wound with a 14cm track into his deep muscle but luckily it did not extend into his thorax. He required further testing and a lot of medical care. This included a IDEXX General Panel, Radiographs, ECG Monitor, Hospitalization fees, lots of medications and anesthetic, 45 minutes of soft tissue surgery, fentanyl patches, IV fluids, cleaning the wound, stitching it together and inserting a Jackson-Pratt drain. It was important to ensure that the wound did not get infected and he was closely monitored, and we are pleased to update that he is healing well and should be getting his stitches removed next week!

This was possible due to our Critical Care Fund, which is largely funded by community donations. So your donations help us save animals like Jimmy. You can donate to Jimmy’s Critical Care Fund directly online at www.whistlerwag.com OR you can partake in our Month of Love Raffle and have a chance to win an amazing prize pack all while donating to WAG animals. You can read about how to enter here: https://whistlerwag.com/wags-month-of-love-2/

Thanks to the team at Coast Mountain for taking such amazing care of Jimmy ❤️

We are happy to see his waggy tail back in action when he sees his friends and are slowly getting to know this sweet, gentle boy at the shelter. So far he loves cuddles, treats and taking limited walks outside for pee breaks until he gets the all clear to go on longer more active adventures!

We will update his profile as we learn more about him and his needs, including further medical care and his suitable home environment moving forwards. He has been such a brave boy, if you are able to open your heart and home to foster him or even adopt him - please fill in an application form or reach out to the shelter today!

My Perfect Match:

-Is willing to take a couple of trips to get to know me before taking me home so I am comfortable with you, sometimes I get a little shy!

- A family with patience who love sweet, wise, slower old doggos

- Understanding that I have had HUGE changes in my life recently, alongside trauma and injury. I will need you to give me the time I need to settle in and relax after my adoption.

- Will take me for regular vet checkups and be proactive with my health. I am currently in recovery from a major surgery and we are not sure what the future may bring and may need some further testing.

My Story:

I recently found myself at WAG and on the search for a new loving home after an accident left me needing emergency surgery. My previous owners made the incredibly hard decision to have me move to WAG so I can get the care and attention I deserve. I'm a very easy going guy - all I want is a place to call my own with someone who can offer stability, love and patience for all of my days.

If you can't adopt right now you can still make a difference! Consider making a donation to WAG to help dogs like me and other furry friends in need. Your generosity will provide crucial support, care, and resources that ensure we receive the love and care we deserve and can be given a second chance.

Age: Born in December 2023

Energy Level: We are young puppies - lots of playing, rest and learning to be done!
House trained?
Working on it!

Kids? Cats? Dogs? With proper introductions, supervision and separation as they transition

Medical Needs: I've just had my first ever vaccine and vet checkup, so will need my boosters and of course my spay surgery too

About Me:

Hi I'm Chocolate! I am around almost 8 weeks old and starting the search for my furever home!

I am just a baby who will need my family to be proactive and understand that these next few weeks are the most important in my life. Early socialization is where I learn about the big wide human world that we have to live in. There are going to be so many new things I have yet to experience. I need a home that will look at my body language and understand when I may be fearful of something new. I'd love a family that will take me to basic puppy classes to get me off on the right start! A family that is patient and loving is what I would like the most. I need a home that is committed to me and ready to give me a life with love and adventure for the rest of my years.

Are you ready to give me the WHOLE package - endless love, positive & considered socialisation experiences, training using positive reinforcement methods, high quality nutrition, vet care as required, and all that puppies need as they grow into dogs?

Remember - adopting a puppy is a huge commitment and these next few weeks and months of their lives are critical in puppy development and socialisation! For more information about preparing to raise a puppy, we recommend the book "The Puppy Primer" by Patricia McConnell and have a few copies at WAG for purchase. If you're ready to offer a warm and supportive environment to a young and determined puppy like me, please consider filling out an adoption application today.
I'm excited to find a loving family that will help me grow into a happy and healthy dog! The first stage to adoption via WAG is always to fill in an application form first, and then we will be in touch about the next steps. Thank you!

My Perfect Match:

- Able to provide a calm, nurturing environment with people that will pay attention to my  body language to understand how I feel

- Is ready for the 10+ year commitment

- Loves everything puppy

- Will continue with basic training, I will need a post-adoption training appointment or Puppy classes with a WAG approved trainer

- Lots of patience!

- Will use food as a motivator

- Will love me forever no matter what, quirks and all!

- I need a home that is committed to me and ready to give me a life with love and adventure for the rest of my years.

My Story:

WAG was contacted when the guardians of my mom 'Turmeric' were no longer able to take care of her, and her soon to come litter of puppies. We were born in a calm, quiet foster home where our mom was able to relax and provide us a great start to life! Our foster pawrents quickly fell in love with Turmeric and chose to adopt her officially, luckily for her she will be able to concentrate on being a doggo herself and won't have any more litters of puppies to care for in her future.

Now its time for me and my 11 siblings to find loving homes of our own too!

If you can't adopt me at this time, please consider donating towards our care and others like us who need help the most. Litters of puppies are adorable, but tend to require a lot of resources and can have long stays at WAG whilst waiting for their loving homes. Shelters across the Province are currently overstretched, please be responsible by spaying and neutering your pets to do you part in preventing unexpected litters locally.

NOTE: If you require assistance in spaying or neutering your own current pets, please contact WAG to find out more about our FANS program (financial assistance for neuters and spays).

The final numbers are in and we are SO EXCITED to announce that we raised a total of $43,090 during our Holiday Matching Campaign. $20,000 was matched by our amazing sponsors Moguls Coffee and Zogs Whistler for a grand total of $63,090!!!!!!!
We are absolutely blown away by all the support and we cannot thank each and every one of you who donated enough. These funds will go a long ways for our Critical Care Program, our Wellness Clinics and Education as well as directly impacting the volume of animals we are able to help in the upcoming year. A very special thank you to our sponsors Moguls Coffee and Zogs Whistler who pledged to help us raise these vital funds and have been long time supporters of WAG.
To all our donors, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in the work we do and supporting the special animals that WAG is able to help.

Best of Whistler 2023

WAG Staff Members would like to thank the Whistler Community for voting WAG as their Favourite Non-Profit for the 11th year in a row!!! All of us at WAG are truly honored and we cannot say how much this means to our whole team. It takes a village to do the work we do and we would not be able to help so many animals without the support from our community ❤

We are extra grateful as WAG Board Member and long time volunteer, Denise Wood, was also voted as Whistler's Favourite Volunteer! Denise has been volunteering at WAG for 14 years and has been integral part of the team over the years. She wears many hats at WAG including being a Board Member, a weekly animal enrichment volunteer, to working fundraising events and even making her own doggy bandanas to help raise funds for the animals at WAG. She is a true testament to the community support we are so grateful to have.

Gender: Male
Age: Approx. 12-14 weeks old
Size: Small but growing

Energy Level: We are young puppies and our energy levels are increasing as we settle in and gain weight! Lots of play and lots of rest required!
House trained?
Working on it!

Kids? Calm families who can understand that we are nervous and haven't had much socialisation up to this point

Cats? Dogs? Potentially, with proper separation and supervision

Medical Needs: I've just had my first ever vaccines so will need my boosters, continued de-worming course, weight gain, neuter when I am ready. NOTE: the vet noted on my health report that I have a very mild malocclusion which gives me my charming smile! This should be monitored moving forward.

About Me:

Hi I'm Rum! They say that me and Bourbon are the two most excitable boys, but I say I am full of character and so many fun times to come. I'm full of energy but if you hang out with me long enough you'll be sure the snuggly side of me and all of my charming potential. I can't wait to find my humans and family, and get the heck out of the shelter!

I'm an adorable young puppy currently looking for a caring and nurturing forever home where I can continue my journey to health and happiness for the rest of my years! Me, mom and my five siblings recently arrived at WAG when we were in urgent need of medical care, nutritional help, warmth and a whole lotta TLC. Thanks to WAG's Critical Care program, it was possible for us to come to the shelter and get the attention we needed in order to thrive.

We are estimated to be around 12-14 weeks old, but as you can see we are all quite underweight and have been recommended to eat several small meals each day to help us whilst letting our sore tummies adjust too. A regular feeding schedule with a high quality diet was prescribed with probiotics and pumpkin added to improve our gut health as our stools have been quite runny! We have been de-wormed to get rid of those nasty worms who gave us a pot-bellied appearance and will need continued treatment every two weeks for a while moving forward. We also arrived with a few cuts and various scabs on our skin, very long nails and were timid on arrival showing lots of signs of anxiety which was to be expected. But, we have been so brave and didn't even cry when the nice Vets poked us with needles to start our vaccination series and give us more protection for our health moving forward. Everyone is so proud of us!

Fingers crossed we will be feeling much, much better soon. Our energy levels are already increasing and we are keen to play a little with the staff and volunteers who come and spend time with us each day. It can be a big chaotic, but this is alongside lots of naps and cuddles of course! As we had no previous vet history we had to be in isolation initially, but soon are allowed to explore more around the shelter, go to foster homes, but ideally get ADOPTED! Getting into homes of our own will be the best next step for us, we have much to learn and are ready to get on with it all, at our own pace.

Not much is known about the weeks of our lives up until this point, our exact age, or who our dad is come to think of it, so we are looking for individual homes with kind humans who understand that we may have fears about the world around us and to please be patient with us. We may do well in homes with another young resident dog who can help us gain confidence and keep us company, as long as they are up for having a new sibling of course and the pawrents are able to take on a special pup like me who may need some extra needs in terms of training and socialisation 🙂

Are you ready to give us the WHOLE package - endless love, positive & considered socialisation experiences, training using positive reinforcement methods, tons of high quality nutrition, vet care as required, and all that puppies need as they grow into dogs?

- Understanding that I have had HUGE changes in my life recently and to give me the time I need to settle in and relax after my adoption. Especially if I am to live with other dogs or younger humans. I am new to car rides, being inside and going for leashed walks!

- Be proactive with my training, using a WAG approved trainer that will help me learn new skills and give me the best set up for success.

- Having a safe & secured yard would be a bonus. If not - not problem but being okay with using a long line to allow freedom whilst keeping me safe.

- Will take me for annual vet checkups and be proactive with my health.

About Me:

Hi I'm Whiskey! I'm the sweetest and usually the calmest of the boys in my litter but have been gaining confidence during my time at the shelter. I love cuddles and playing with my siblings but I do find it all a bit overwhelming at times when they are being a bit too over excited for my liking. I'm a barrel of cuteness and can't wait to find my people!

Breed: Pittie Mix
Gender: Male
Age: Approx. 5 months old
Size: Still growing! Medium?

Critical Care graphic

Energy Level: I'm a puppy with lots of energy! Lots of play and lots of rest required!
House trained? Yes!

Kids? Calm kids would be great! I am a bouncy puppy but I have done well when meeting children before. As long as they can understand when I want my own space and let me rest.

Cats? Dogs? Cats unknown, potentially with separation and supervision! I like other dogs and have been in foster homes with other dogs before, as long as they like puppies and playing and my new family can manage us both.

Medical Needs: I've had my DA2PP vaccines and am currently recovering from my recent neuter. Moving forward - yearly boosters and checkups!

About Me:

Hi I'm Bourbon! I'm the last of my litter at WAG and I am STILL waiting for my forever family to come and find me and bring me home! At WAG I LOVE playing with other doggos and keeping the staff around here busy with my antics. Luckily I'm currently in a loving foster home where I am learning lots of great skills and spending time away from the shelter whilst I recover from my recent neuter. I have a doggo foster brother and we have lots of fun together whilst I wait.  I am a entertaining little guy, I'm looking for a family who love lively pups and can keep up with me and help me learn all the things I'll need to know!

I'm an adorable young puppy currently looking for a caring and nurturing forever home where I can continue my journey to health and happiness for the rest of my years! Me, mom and my five siblings arrived at WAG over 12 weeks ago when we were in urgent need of medical care, nutritional help, warmth and a whole lotta TLC. Thanks to WAG's Critical Care program, it was possible for us to come to the shelter and get the attention we needed in order to thrive.

We arrived at about 3 months old, but as you can see if you scroll down to my older photos we were all quite underweight and have been recommended to eat several small meals each day to help us whilst letting our sore tummies adjust too. But, we have been so brave and didn't even cry when the nice Vets poked us with needles to start our vaccination series and give us more protection for our health moving forward. Everyone is so proud of us!

We improved quickly and the other five puppies in my litter found homes and so did mom! Not much is known about the weeks of our lives up until this point, our exact age, or who our dad is come to think of it, so we are looking for individual homes with kind humans who understand that we may have fears about the world around us and to please be patient with us.
