Job Summary

  • Provide exceptional overall care for all animals at WAG

Exercise, feeding, bathing, enrichment, training etc.

  • Thoroughly clean and disinfect all areas of the shelter

Able to follow rigorous shelter cleaning procedures

  • Reception/Administration

Build and maintain positive relationships with donors, adopters, volunteers and community members needing assistance

We are seeking a compassionate animal lover to join our team. This position is responsible for providing WAG animals with all-encompassing care including, but not limited to, feeding, bathing, exercise and enrichment, training, rehabilitation, medical care and treatments etc. Many duties also include cleaning kennels, cat rooms, dog runs and facilities according to disease prevention protocols, as well as providing all-encompassing enrichment and care to the animals. This position also includes general reception duties such as greeting members of the public, answering telephones, responding to emails, entering information into our database, uploading photos, filing, and cash-out procedures. The position requires an individual who has lots of energy, a solid work ethic, a keenness to learn, and someone who shows the ability to work independently while still communicating and working effectively with a small team of people. The ideal candidate manages well in fast-paced, high stress, and emotional situations. The person in this position will work equally with human and non-human animals and, the ideal candidate must enjoy working and assisting community members in a compassionate, professional and confidential manner. The person in this position will act as an ambassador to WAG at all times and will ensure that customer and community relations are consistently professional and positive.

The ideal candidate will be confident and willing to learn how to work with all types of animals including sick and injured ones, as well as animals with behavioral issues. The ideal candidate will also understand shelter procedures regarding infectious disease transmission and control, will be a self-starter and will be adaptable. Preference is given to people with a background in shelter work /volunteering or extensive practical animal experience, including experience working in a veterinary practice. An educational background in any animal field is an asset. Must be physically able to lift 50lbs and be happy to walk big strong dogs in all kinds of weather!
